Humboldt, TN – The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the remarkable economic impact of the 86th Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival. Held over the course of a week, this year’s festival generated a significant economic boost for our local community according to data from partners at the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, Placer.ai and Tennessee Tech.
The festival, a cherished tradition since 1934, not only drew local residents but also welcomed a substantial number of tourists from outside Humboldt. The influx of visitors resulted in an estimated economic impact of over $6 million dollars*. This impressive figure underscores the festival’s vital role in promoting economic growth and supporting local businesses.
Moreover, the event contributed significantly to tax revenues, with an estimated $800,000 generated for local, county, state, and federal governments. That number includes the dollars these visitors spent in our city and county businesses, restaurants, gas stations and more. All this revenue supports essential public services and infrastructure, benefiting the entire community.
The actual number of visitors enjoying a wide array of activities and entertainment was up year over year, as well. Over the course of the week the festival saw a more than 130% increase in total visits. This number includes everyone from outside of Humboldt up to 50 miles away. Narrowing that number down further, the numbers for Friday alone show an increase of 330% of all visitors from outside the city limits of Humboldt. When you look at those from over 50 miles away, there was a 620% year over year visitor increase for just Friday.
The success of the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our community members, Festival staff and committees, local businesses, and volunteers. Their efforts have ensured that this beloved event continues to thrive and bring joy to all who attend.
The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce extends its deepest gratitude to everyone involved in making the 86th Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival a resounding success. We look forward to the 87th Festival and to many years to come as well as further contributing to the economic prosperity of Humboldt.
