Tyson Foods Helped Provide Nearly 300,000 Meals to Humboldt Community in 2021 through Mobile Pantry Events

Humboldt, TN. – December 2, 2021 – Over the past year, Tyson Foods has helped the Second Harvest Mobile Food Bank provide nearly 300,000 meals to support hunger relief in the Humboldt area.  About 27,000 pounds of foods will be handed out in Gibson County at the last Tyson Foods sponsored mobile pantry event of 2021, Saturday, December 4 at New Bethlehem Baptist Church.

The Humboldt Tyson Foods plant has previously funded 11 mobile pantries in 2021, distributing about 317,000 pounds of nutritious food to the local community. Over the past year, more than 2,600 households received 264,000 meals through the events.

Many people experiencing hunger live in food deserts, where the nearest grocery store is not easily accessible. Second Harvest meets people where they are distributing food directly to people and families in need. Recent Tyson Foods-funded mobile pantries have provided on average 26,682 pounds of food to an average of 277 households, equaling 96 pounds per family per event.

“Tyson Foods allows us to provide quality food to those struggling with food insecurity,” said Donna K. Vick, Donor Relations Manager for Second Harvest Food Bank. “One mobile pantry at a time, we’re ensuring that families don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.”

Tyson Foods is deeply committed to relieving hunger in the U.S. and helping communities affected by food insecurity. The company is proud to support the work of Second Harvest through its contributions to the local community.

“Tyson Food’s partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank helps us in our mission to fight hunger and eliminate food insecurity,” said Nathan McDowell, Tyson Foods Humboldt plant manager. “By providing access to high-quality protein and other foods, we are improving the quality of life in the communities where we operate.”

Tyson Foods also donated $108,500 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee in February 2020, enabling them to fully fund 36 mobile pantry distributions that serve communities in Shelbyville, Goodlettsville, and Humboldt.

The Tyson Foods Humboldt plant will continue to offer nutritious meals to families in need and fund six additional mobile pantries in spring of 2022.
