FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jackson, Tenn. (April 19, 2021) – United Way of West TN will be hosting the West TN Afterschool Network Virtual Conference via Zoom on May 5-7. Registration is open and free to parents and caregivers, nonprofits, school systems, and other community advocates for school-age children and youth. Through the Tennessee Afterschool Network (TAN) and West TAN, agencies can utilize a myriad of free resources and programs created and vetted by leaders and experts in their respective fields.
Out-of-School Time (OST) programs need funding, tools, and program resources to further serve local communities. Nonprofits, especially, are in continual need of concrete resources and ideas for expanding their services and programs. In response, this conference will provide up-to-date information and resources regarding the upcoming summer, the following school year, and practical takeaways to implement with students.
“I’m excited to be partnering with the TN Departments of Education and Human Services; the regional Health Department; PBS, Parks & Recs UT Extensions and Prevention Coalitions across the region; and several top-notch local program providers to share great info with our West TN community,” says Krista Paul, West TAN coordinator and United Way Resource Director. “Door prizes will also be given away during every session! I hope everyone comes away with things to use, whether at home, at school, or at an OST program.”
The webinar will talk place on Wednesday, May 5 from 1 – 3 pm as well as Thursday and Friday, May 6-7 from 9 am – 12 pm. Topics discussed will cover areas such as Literacy, Mental Health, Community Resources, Health & Wellness, Family Engagement, Substance Prevention and STEM.
A Zoom link to the conference will be provided upon registering. To register, contact kbpaul@unitedway.tn.org.
