Your Humboldt Itinerary
It’s time for a slower pace…a relaxing few days in a beautiful small town. A place where you can enjoy your morning coffee in the shady courtyard of your bed and breakfast then enjoy a leisurely walk down Main just shopping, enjoying a meal or movie or even a step back in time at an old fashioned candy shop. Perhaps a trip to the winery for award-winning wine, craftmade beer or handcrafted pizza sounds like a fun excursion. Maybe you want to try out the boutiques or even the fine art museum.
MORNING
There’s nothing like starting your day off with a great breakfast to get you fueled up for a day of shopping and fun.
- The Coffee Shop on Main Street is a great option to get your day going…and also a wonderful lunch choice. Fresh baked beignets, fabulous coffee drinks, waffles and more in the morning and soups, sandwiches and salads for lunch. Maybe you would prefer a true Southern breakfast at Rachel’s Diner.
- Looking for something quick? McDonald’s, Sonic and Wendy’s all serve hot breakfast items on the go to get you shopping faster.
- Let’s start your day on 22nd Avenue with Strawberry Hill Landscape Nursery. Don’t let the name fool you…YES they have a great selection of plants and can help you with your landscaping needs. Floyd and his team are wonderful. The fun stuff lies inside with Jenny, though. You’ll find a great selection of decor – just inside the doors.
- Need a break yet? Run across the street to Humboldt Nutrition and grab a protein shake or loaded tea to fuel the rest of your morning. (Or you can stop in later in the afternoon if you’re running on empty.)
- While you’re over there, step two doors down to see your first boutique of the day – Coco Marie. Corie has a great selection of women’s clothing for all sizes. Then follow the street up behind Humboldt Nutrition to get to One Fifty Two Designs. This is truly a hidden treasure for custom made tees and casual women’s clothing.
- If it’s close to mealtime, drop into La Fiesta for a great Mexican meal and maybe a margarita.
- As you leave, hang a right onto Highway 45 and drop into Steve’s Custom Carts. For that super, special gift to yourself or someone you love…go see Steve and Holly. Whether you need a golf cart for your weekly 18 holes or just one to putter around the neighborhood, this is the ONLY place to go. Does it tell you anything to know that they make deliveries all over the area? Including to a few Nashville celebrities? Why would you go anywhere else? Customize from top to bottom and KNOW that it’s done right.
- Now, follow Highway 45 back around where you came from and follow Highway 45 around the way to Central Avenue. Turn left on Central and find your way to Savvy Beautique. A unique spelling of the name and a highly unique store. Nycole has a wonderful selection of fun women’s clothing and shoes – from jeans to dresses. Don’t miss it.
- Follow Central on down to Main Street and find a parking spot. We suggest the public lot behind the Mayor’s Office on 12th and Main. That way you can just walk through our fantastic Main Street shopping district – down one side and back up the other.
MIDDAY to MID-AFTERNOON
- If you’ve started near 12th Avenue (and it’s during the weekday), drop into the Chamber of Commerce at 1200 Main Street. We’ll be happy to help you find the best stores and guide you along your way. We have brochures, menus and guides to help. We’re here 8AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday. Ask about Chamber Bucks that can be used like gift certificates at most Chamber member stores throughout Humboldt. They make EXCELLENT gifts or stocking stuffers if you have friends and family coming our way.
- If you turn to your right on 12th and Main, you’ll see Lashlee-Rich Building Materials. This one is a “don’t miss” for the guys on your shopping list. They have a great selection of tools and Case knives for all ages. While they don’t offer gift certificates, they do accept Chamber Bucks.
- The next store on the north side of the street is Peppermint Pony. Step inside for the most beautiful and unique, handmade children’s clothes anywhere. They have you covered from infants on up.
- Keep walking to find Laura Giles Art Studio. You might be able to find a seat at her normally sold-out art camp.
- Artisan Trade Co. is next up. Inside you’ll find a beautiful collection of handmade art, pottery and more. Plus, it’s the home of Nanny’s Natural Products. These natural soaps and cleaners are the perfect gift for every member of your family.
- And you CANNOT miss The Kandy Bank. Step back to a simpler time when you browse their HUGE selection of every kind of confection known to man…including British imports and ice cream. Everyone on your list will love you forever for picking up items here. (And a little something for yourself!)
- City Gift Company is another popular stop. It’s been a go-to gift shop for years. From candles and candleholders to soaps, ornaments, dip mixes, religious items, clothing, jewelry, decor and more – you will absolutely find something that ticks off a box that you want.
- Main Boutique on across 14th Avenue on the corner. This women’s clothing store has a full range of items for every woman on your list. DeShawn has great boutique clothing brands, jewelry, candles, Able bags and more.
- The Coffee Shop (if you didn’t stop in for breakfast) is next up. Not only can you grab some lunch or a pick-me-up coffee drink, but they have whole bean coffee, loose leaf imported tea and more. Grab one of their comfy t-shirts to commemorate your visit.
- People’s Furniture Store is 2 doors down and harkens back to a time when furniture shopping wasn’t so difficult. Jason and his staff can help you find just the right piece for your own home. If they don’t have it, they can order. OR if you want a different fabric, etc…they can help.
- Cross the street at the crosswalk to find Magnolia Manor and Chapel. This gorgeous bed and breakfast has rooms, and we HIGHLY recommend a stay there – for a weekend or just a weeknight getaway. Ask about their addons for truly luxurious time.
- On this South side of Main Street take note of the classic movie theater the Humboldt Plaza 3. While you may be early for a movie if it’s midday to mid-afternoon, note the showtimes and come back. (There are 3PM matinees on Tuesday and Friday during the summer.) You WILL NOT be disappointed. This beautiful old theater opened in 1941 and attracts visitors from all around. The prices are reasonable, the concessions are great and the atmosphere can’t be beat.
- Getting hungry yet? That great aroma is coming from next door at Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant. Those favorite thin, crispy tortilla chips are just the start. Mi Casita has a full menu of traditional favorites alongside authentic Mexican cuisine. The staff is also super friendly.
- Take a left down South 14th Street to find Flowers of Distinction. Who doesn’t love flowers?
- On down the way is Simmons Shoe Store. Simmons is legendary in Humboldt. They’ve been in business longer than most people today have been alive and are still serving their customers with high quality, fashionable shoes – ladies’ and men’s shoes!
- Across the street (14th) is Jokema’s. You can’t miss them in the pink building – and you don’t want to! They have a huge variety of items for men, women and even CHILDREN including clothing, jewelry, gifts and more!
- Back up on Main Street, as you continue West you’ll come upon Creative Accents. This is another must see shop. The front of the store is dedicated to great gift ideas including jewelry, candles, decor and even Magnolia soaps. In the back of the store, don’t miss her great selection of clothing and shoes for all ages of women.
- And what shopping trip could be complete without a stop by Brasfield Jewelry? Whether you’re looking for fun, everyday costume pieces or a truly special gift – or anything in between! They even do custom wedding sets and more. This is a MUST stop.
- Again…the aroma of a great meal cooking will hit you. You may even be getting hungry for a snack or dinner by now. Milano’s Pizza and Pasta has you covered. They have great New York style pizza, stromboli, calzones, pasta and more. Do yourself a favor and try the alfredo. Handmade and simmered for hours, this is pretty close to heavenly.
- And that brings you back to 1200 Main Street. If you haven’t grabbed Chamber Bucks, do so now; and while you’re here, tour the West Tennessee Art Center. It’s the only fine art museum between Memphis and Nashville. You’ll also want to drop into the Humboldt History Museum if it’s open, as well.
LATE AFTERNOON
- Leaving Main Street you have a few options. You could head out to Crown Winery. It is a must visit on ANY trip to West Tennessee. Whether you’re looking for a great new wine for yourself or a gift, their own craft beer or one of their delicious handmade pizzas…this is one stop you can’t miss. Be sure to stay for a tasting – and definitely try one or both of their top two wines…Cranberry Rose and Sangria. Or for something not so sweet, Cayuga White or 50/50. These are all immensely popular. They’ll also have 3 or 4 of their seasonal craft beers on tap. On Thursday through Sunday, you can grab one of their 4 delicious, handmade thin-crust pizzas. Our office favorite is the Weston.
- If you’re ready for dinner, another local favorite is Wall Street Grill on North Central Avenue. Why is it a favorite? You can get a great variety in one location…and everything is wonderful! Soup? Check! Burgers? Out of this world! Pasta? Yep! Pizza? Yes! Greek pizza and gyros? Sure…the owner is Greek! Steak? Amazing! They even have a nice kids menu and a few low carb selections. And the service can’t be beat.
- And of course, don’t forget to head back down to Main for the evening show at Humboldt Plaza 3.
We hope you enjoy your day in Humboldt, and hope you’ll find something that keeps bringing you back to our town.
We love it, and hope you will, too! Please remember to mention that you saw the ad in Guest Quest when you visit!
